I am a little ole lady in tennis shoes who cleans
other peoples houses. For one thing I like the $ and another I get to see a lot of cool homes.
I have picked up a lot of little time savers(and work savers) over the years I will be happy to share with you.
Lets start in the bath room.
(1) Got one of those "neat" garden tubs you fill with bubble bath and turn on the jets and "soak" for days?Great HUH? Let the water out and what a mess!Your "neat" tub is an oily mess!!!!
Tip..Have a plastic broom (that you use only in here) toss in some all purpose cleaner(I use whatever is on sale they do mostly the same thing) give it a fast swipe it looks good and you didn't have to get back in the tub to do it.
(2) Does the guy in the house ALWAYS leave little
shaving hairs on the sink, and you get to clean it up?
Tip..Before you really clean it up,wipe it with a
damp paper towel, that way you aren't dragging it all over the rest of the counter top.
Speaking of counter tops any kind of baby wipes do a great job of sanitizing and leave a nice shine.
(3) Do you have a shower that builds up mildew
quicker than you can clean it up?
Tip..Maybe your shower is TOO airtight try leaving the door open (or the curtain) until it drys out,the dampness is what's causing it.
(4) Whenever you wipe down your chrome(or
gold)fixtures, there are always streaks or water marks when dry Right?
Tip..Dry your hand and drag it across the metal and it is shiny as can be.(I don't know why this works but it does every time).
(5) You know all about the Cost of those mildew and scum cleaning products, right?
Look at the CHEMICAL contents on the packaging.
The main one is Bleach.I do this for $ so the best $ saver on these products is ..MAKE YOUR OWN...
Tip...Buy a spray bottle(about a dollar & a half)fill it about 2\3 full with bleach,the rest water,then spray it on the shower
walls,(or where ever you were going to use the other stuff)leave the room(unless you have great air circulation)come back in 15 or 20 minutes and rinse it off.If you have a really Bad build up you might have to do it a couple of times, but you would with the other stuff too!
Be SURE to MARK the bottle so you know it shouldn't be used on just Anything.(I use Duct Tape)
(6) Do you sometimes forget that the cabinets in here are furniture? As a matter of fact probably the most used in the house?
Tip...I use LOT'S of lemon oil in here as the dampness and then sudden drying out,(using blow dryers etc)causes the wood a lot of damage.Use it once a month and it sure will make a difference in the lifetime of the Wood.(I)Watch how quickly it gets soaked up)...
(7) The John(ugh)what can I say?
Tip...Clean it first.Get it out of the way.Once you clean it it makes a great mop bucket.
(8)The floors in here also take a lot of abuse.hair spray,baby powder,"whatever".
Tip...Use a Rag Mop,(they are the most sanitary)Put some Lysol(or whatever You like)in the John and you are in business. With a rag mop you can use your foot on the end of it for corners and can get behind the John easer.
(I'm old I hate bending over if I can avoid it)
The best thing to remember is start at the top and clean down.
Stuff everyone Needs to know
1)Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of
a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.
2)Use a meat baster to "squeeze" your pancake
batter onto the hot griddle-perfect shaped
pancakes every time.
3)To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple
in the bag with the potatoes.
4)To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.
5)Run your hands under cold water before pressing Rice Krispies treats in the pan-the marshmallow
won't stick to your fingers.
6)To get the most juice out of fresh lemons,
bring them to room temperature and roll them
under your palm against the kitchen counter
before squeezing.
7)To easily remove burnt on food from your
skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap
and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and
bring to a boil on stove-top - skillet will be
much easier to clean now.
8)Spray your Tupperware with nonstick cooking
spray before pouring in tomato-based sauces-no
more stains.
9)When a cake recipe calls for flouring the
baking pan,use a bit of the dry cake mix
instead-no white mess on the outside of the cake.
10)If you accidentally over-salt a dish while
it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato-it
absorbs the excess salt for an instant "fix me
up".
11)Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in
the refrigerator-it will keep for weeks.
12)Brush beaten egg white over pie crust before
baking to yield a beautiful, glossy finish.
13)Place a slice of apple in hardened brown sugar to soften it back up.
14)When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of
sugar to help bring out the corn's natural
sweetness.
15)To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse
it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it "sinks,
it is fresh"if it rises to the surface, throw it away.
16)Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in
half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing
will go.
17)Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and
sauces.(I never seem to have any left over).
18)If you have problem opening jars: Try using
latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip
grip that makes opening jars easy.
19)Potatoes will take food stains off your
fingers. Just slice and rub raw potato on the
stains and rinse with water.
20)To get rid of itch from mosquito bite: try
applying soap on the area,"instant relief".
21)Ants,ants,ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your
chalk out and draw a line on the floor or
wherever ants tend to march, see for yourself.
22)Use air-freshener to clean mirrors: It does a
good job and better still, leave a lovely smell
to the shine.
23)When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch
tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle.
Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter,
then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most
splinters painlessly and easily
"NOW Look" what you can do with Alka
Seltzer:
Clean a toilet:Drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush, and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous
china.
Clean a vase:To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets.
Polish jewelry:Drop two Alka-Seltzer tablets
into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.
Clean a thermos bottle:Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka-Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer,if necessary.)
Unclog a drain:Clear the sink drain by dropping
three Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a
